New Jersey Lottery Dead People Winning?

Post by Gestures » Thu Nov 19, 2015 12:29 am

A new New Jersey state audit has found that many older people that had passed away were actually coming back, entering lottery draws and winning serious amounts of lottery money. I know this makes no sense - but here is the scoop.

After an audit was done - state found out that various amounts of lottery winnings had been paid out to at least 46 individuals that were no longer alive. By using this fraud tactic, many crafty people had now avoided giving the state an amount of approximately 300,000 dollars in tax. The lottery foundation only checks the names/social security numbers of people that earn more than $250,000 dollars per year and everybody else gets a free pass on this.
So lottery winners were claiming winnings using names and social security numbers of people who had passed away, all just to give IRS the finger sort of speak.

Go figure...the IRS gets screwed from dishonest people instead of the usual complaints of the IRS screwing the people. Just goes to show, "what comes around goes around". In the end result government always wins, so best never to do such stupid tactics.
